…the importance of zooming out…

1 Chronicles 17:1
Now when David lived in his house, David said to Nathan the prophet, “Behold, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of the Lord is under a tent.”

We should be, on a regular basis, thinking over the logistics and infrastructure of our lives to allow the Spirit of God to put our hearts in a kind of diagnostic testing pattern. Without stepping back and looking at his life from the ourside-in, David wouldn’t have seen the obvious difference in his residence and the residence of the represented glory of God. It would have been easy for David as king to become so immersed IN his life that he never stepped back to work ON his life. Regular times of silence and solitude and meditation help to foster these times of diagnostic clarity.
